Yo! I’m an air flotation machine supplier, and I often get asked about how well our machines can treat food processing wastewater. So, I thought I’d break it down for you all here in this blog. Air Flotation Machine

The Nasty Problem of Food Processing Wastewater
Food processing plants generate a ton of wastewater. This stuff is no joke. It’s full of all sorts of gross stuff like oils, grease, food particles, proteins, and carbohydrates. These contaminants can really mess up the environment if they’re not treated properly. Just imagine untreated wastewater flowing into rivers or lakes. It can cause oxygen depletion, kill fish and other aquatic life, and make the water all murky and stinky.
How Air Flotation Machines Work
Okay, so let’s talk about how our air flotation machines come to the rescue. The basic idea behind an air flotation machine is to use tiny bubbles to lift contaminants to the surface of the wastewater. It’s like magic in a way.
Here’s how the process goes. First, the wastewater is pumped into the air flotation tank. Then, we inject a whole bunch of tiny air bubbles into the water. These bubbles attach themselves to the contaminants in the water, whether it’s oil droplets, suspended solids, or other junk. As the bubbles rise to the surface, they carry the contaminants with them.
At the top of the tank, we have a mechanism that skims off the layer of floating contaminants, which is called the sludge. This sludge can then be removed and properly disposed of. Meanwhile, the cleaner water at the bottom of the tank can be further treated or discharged, depending on local regulations.
The Treatment Effect on Different Contaminants
Oils and Grease
One of the biggest problems in food processing wastewater is oils and grease. These substances are not only bad for the environment but can also clog up pipes and treatment systems. Our air flotation machines are really good at removing oils and grease. The tiny air bubbles have a strong affinity for oil droplets. They stick to the oil and make it rise to the surface.
In most cases, we can achieve an oil and grease removal efficiency of over 90%. That’s a huge deal! It means that the wastewater leaving the air flotation machine is much cleaner and less likely to cause problems downstream.
Suspended Solids
Food processing wastewater also contains a lot of suspended solids, like food particles, fibers, and dirt. These solids can make the water look cloudy and can cause issues in treatment processes. Our air flotation machines are great at removing suspended solids too.
The air bubbles attach to the solids and lift them to the surface. We’ve found that our machines can typically remove between 80% and 95% of the suspended solids in the wastewater. This significantly reduces the turbidity of the water and makes it easier to treat further.
Organic Matter
Organic matter, such as proteins and carbohydrates, is another common contaminant in food processing wastewater. These substances can consume oxygen in the water, leading to oxygen depletion and harming aquatic life.
Our air flotation machines can help reduce the amount of organic matter in the wastewater. By removing the suspended solids and oils that often contain organic matter, we can lower the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) of the water. We usually see a BOD reduction of around 50% to 70% after the wastewater goes through our air flotation machine.
Real – World Examples
We’ve installed our air flotation machines in a number of food processing plants, and the results have been amazing.
One of our clients is a small meat processing plant. They were having problems with their wastewater discharge, as it was causing odor issues and was exceeding the local pollution limits. After installing our air flotation machine, the water quality improved significantly. The oil and grease content in the wastewater dropped below the allowable limit, and the suspended solids were also greatly reduced. The plant was able to avoid hefty fines and improve its environmental reputation.
Another client, a large dairy processing plant, was struggling with high BOD levels in its wastewater. Our air flotation machine helped them reduce the BOD by more than 60%. This not only made the wastewater easier to treat further but also saved them money on their treatment costs.
Advantages of Our Air Flotation Machines
There are a few reasons why our air flotation machines are a great choice for food processing wastewater treatment.
First, they’re really efficient. As I mentioned earlier, they can remove a high percentage of oils, grease, suspended solids, and organic matter. This means that the treated wastewater is of much higher quality.
Second, they’re easy to operate and maintain. Our machines are designed with simplicity in mind. The operators don’t need to have a lot of technical knowledge to run them. And when it comes to maintenance, we’ve made sure that the parts are easy to access and replace.
Third, our machines are cost – effective. They have a relatively low capital cost compared to some other wastewater treatment technologies. And in the long run, they can save food processing plants a lot of money on treatment costs and potential fines.
Why You Should Consider Our Air Flotation Machines
If you’re running a food processing plant, you know how important it is to treat your wastewater properly. Not only is it a legal requirement, but it’s also the right thing to do for the environment.
